The Tau believe that now is their time; their race, their empire will bring unity to all. There is no foe their technology cannot overcome, no quandary their science cannot resolve. The very stars themselves will be reforged in the cause of the Greater Good.
The advanced technology of the Tau allows weapons of incredible power to be mounted on comparatively small chassis – the Battlesuit is no exception. A single Fire Caste pilot is seated inside an armoured cockpit, controlling a swift and agile suit of the same rough size as a Space Marine Dreadnought. Devastating Plasma rifles, missile pods and fusion blasters as well as infantry-shredding burst cannons and anti-tank railguns are among the loadouts available to the Battlesuit, and many variants have been developed by the scientists of the Earth Caste.
Tau aircraft range from small, unmanned drone fighters to the vast and terrifying Manta – so huge that it is actually a small spacecraft. All, however, combine the heightened skills and reflexes of an Air Caste pilot with advanced weapons and powerful thrusters that make many Tau aircraft superior to comparable Imperial patterns. The hard edge of combat experience displayed by the elite aircrews of the Imperial Navy, however, is often lacking in the Tau, and this can level the playing field at critical moments.
Tau vehicles utilise skimmer technology – they lack the graceful speed of the Eldar, but are far more heavily armoured and mount devastating weapons systems. The Third Phase Expansion of the Tau Empire has seen many variants on the Hammerhead turret weapon, as well as drone-controlled turret emplacements and specialised, heavier Gun Drones.
The race of Kroot are often encountered as mercenaries, offering their services to the highest bidder. The Tau Empire have ostensibly secured an alliance with the Kroot at the expense of all others, and as such large forces of these alien warriors are often seen as part of Tau battlegroups.
Tau defensive weapons systems are often drone-controlled, allowing the warriors of the Fire Caste to focus their deadly efforts on directly combating those misguided forces that refuse to see the advantage of the Greater Good. These turrets and emplacements offer a tireless defence, automated motion-trackers and targeting arrays leaving no gaps for an enemy to exploit.
The Tau mount many different upgrades on their vehicles depending on the battlefield situation. Additional Seeker Missiles are a common feature, especially if Tau armour is working in close support of Pathfinders, whose Markerlights can quickly designate fresh targets.
